Botanical Sculptures in Sterling Silver
Sterling silver Orchid Studies are statement pieces. The collection includes botanical sculptures, decorative vases and functional art pieces.
We are often asked how we make these unique, botanically accurate orchid pieces. We start by studying a natural orchid, its color and shape, how it grows and emerges from its buds. Deborah creates a botanical drawing to capture this information and the feel of the plant. She uses the "lost wax casting method" to create the sterling silver flower. She fabricates, chases and enamels the leaves and engraves the stems. Finally Deborah brings the flowers, buds, leaves and stems together and arranges them in vases that reflect her artistic vision.
Deborah was inspired to create these silver Orchid Studies after seeing the exquisite gold orchids at The Huntington Gardens in San Marino, CA and the the Faberge flowers on display in San Francisco. The Orchid Studies seen below and on exhibit at the shows and galleries listed are unique botanical creations, contemporary in a style and all hand made.

The Sterling silver Diva is admiring herself in the silver and rock crystal mirror while sitting cross-legged at her handmade marble desk. The silver vase holds pearl flowers. Her dress is enamel with 24K gold collar and ruby pendant. Her shoes are silver, her tufted chair bronze. Deborah created by hand all elements of this fanciful family.

| The sterling silver and enamel orchid kids are playing on a crysocolla and bronze working sea saw. Malchite cushions each bump. White marble forms the base.

Sterling silver sea rose surrounded by sea weed top this black lacquer box. The silver sculptured top was made using the European techniques of chasing and repousse. The sea weed was first modeled in Japanese Mitsuro wax then cast using the "lost wax casting" process. All silver work was done by hand including fabricating the final piece. The box is 5"x3"x3".
